Black Belt Alumni Class

A Kadan and PaaMano Eskrima Black Belt is a four year commitment. We are grateful to our Black Belts for sharing a minimum of four years of their lives with us. Their contribution to the legacy of Kadan Martial Arts and PaaMano Eskrima is undeniable. As a heart-felt thank you we are offering our Black Belt Alumni Classes for FREE.

One of the most important aspects of our Black Belt test is "giving back or paying it forward" by assisting/creating community services projects and volunteering to help those in need. In keeping with our Black Belt philosophy we've decided donate our time and to offer our Black Belt Alumni Classes for no monetary fee. We will however ask for donations to the charity highlighted that month. We will provide a list of charities and their corresponding months so our BB Alumni will know what type of donations to bring. This month (January) we will be asking for donations of canned or non-perishable foods for the Los Angels Food Bank.

We know life takes many different paths so we've developed the class to accommodate for all fitness levels. Our goal is to provide a positive and challenging environment that promotes personal growth, mental vitality, and physical fitness.

January's class will consist of warm up, shield kicking drills, mitt punching drills, footwork, slips and distance training. We will close class with paddle ball matches.

We look forward to reconnecting, breaking a sweat and sharing what we love...the martial arts!
Don't miss the first Black Belt Alumni Class of 2015.

Letter to Police Officer, Firefighter and Military Personnel

Dear So Cal Peace Officer, Fire Fighter & Military Personnel,

I first want to thank you for being of service to our communities. You face potential life-threatening dangers everyday so that the rest of us don’t need to.

Last week I had a Police Officer visit my studio and ask about practical hands-on self-defense classes for himself. When I asked him why he wanted to learn and train in these techniques he answered, “Because I have a family and I’d like to come home to them”. Being a family man myself, my heart went out to him. I promised to work with him on his days off.

His visit got me to thinking about all the brave people serving and it  inspired me to begin offering special hands-on/reality-based classes open only to active or retired Peace Officers, Fire Fighters and Military Personnel. They are special weekly training classes offered at Kadan Martial Arts. I share techniques and practical applications with this class that I am unable to do with the general public or even my advanced martial arts students.

Because I want those in service to be able to apply these self-defense techniques in high stress situations, muscle memory is key in the training. Seminars and workshops are fine for general info and for basic application but I’ve learned through 30+ years of coaching and training Olympic Athletes that there is NO substitution for repetition and consistency in training. The only way we can be sure that our bodies will react effectively and efficiently in high stress is by practicing a technique or combination often enough that our brain no longer needs to think because our body knows what to do automatically.

If you are interested in participating and/or know other Peace Officers, Fire Fighters and Military that would be interested please email KJNFerrer@gmail.com.

Thank you once again for all you do and may you always, safely, find your way home,

Master Roland Ferrer

About Roland Ferrer's Men's Martial Flow

By Aurora Ferrer

Master Roland Ferrer has developed a unique program for men called Men's Martial Flow. He combines his 42 years of martial arts experience with the latest in exercises for longevity, proprioception and conditioning. Master Ferrer is in his 50s. While he still suffers from numerous injuries acquired throughout his 25+ years competing in the martial arts, he has retained much of his martial arts ability, flexibility and strength.

In this program he shares what he has learned and practiced over the years and how he's been able to retain so much of his physical ability. His vitality has given him the opportunity to continue training and coaching top level martial arts competitors well into his middle age. Drawing from his own experiences and adding the newest longevity and strengthening exercises makes this a program unlike any other he has ever offered.

Master Ferrer attributes his physical longevity in the martial arts to a combination of important factors and has incorporated these six factors into his Men's Martial Flow (MMF) program.
1. A lifelong dedication to the martial arts ("Life requires movement." Aristotle )
2. Facing ones fears ("The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek." Joseph Campbell)
3. Being 100% responsible (There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. Albert Einstein)
4. Keeping an empty cup (“Empty your cup so that it may be filled; become devoid to gain totality.” Bruce Lee)
5. An attitude of gratitude ("Trade your expectations for appreciation and the world changes instantly." Tony Robbins)
6. Laugh (With the fearful strain that is on me night and day, if I did not laugh I should die. Abraham Lincoln)

Men's Martial Flow (MMF) is dedicated to helping students develop practical and applicable self-defense skills by providing invigorating workouts, challenging preconceived limitations, and special "muscle memory" training drills. There is no previous martial arts training required but students must possess a desire to train in an intense yet respectful environment and maintain a positive attitude. The classes are setup to accommodate for beginning to advanced fitness levels. The Program is open to participants 18 years and older by invitation only. (If you are interested in training in MMF but have not trained with Master Ferrer or with any of his students then please email Master Ferrer at KJNFerrer@gmail.com
